Our Story

About Us
Established in 1989 Waliz Nuts has been producing the highest quality Australian macadamias out of the picturesque town of Newrybar in the Byron hinterland. The farm’s history dates back to the mid-1980s when the Hudson family bought a small acreage and spent their first summer planting the first 3000 trees. From there, they expanded their operations by sourcing nuts from neighbouring orchards, processing the macadamias themselves, and distributing them nationwide. Since then, son & daughter-in-law Paul & Liz Hudson continued to build on the strong reputation of the family business.
Peter McCoy became co-owner in 2021, and Melanie Hardie took the helm as CEO in 2023 and became co-owner in 2024, joining Paul in further expanding the business, strengthening operations, and advancing the macadamia industry.
The business is undergoing major upgrades, including a new factory expansion.

Australian Macadamias
First discovered in 1857 along Australia’s Queensland coast, macadamias were named in Honor of Dr. John Macadam, a colleague of the Australian botanist who made the actual discovery. Australia is the leading producer of macadamia nuts (the only native Australian plant to be developed as a commercial food crop). “Macas” are also grown in large quantities in Hawaii, South Africa, Costa Rica, and Guatemala.
Australian macadamias are renowned for their superior quality and flavour, thanks to the ideal climate, stringent quality standards, and advanced farming techniques. With a focus on sustainability and traceability, consumers worldwide trust the integrity of Australian macadamias, making them the preferred choice.
Our Products
Macadamia nuts are so good they could sell themselves – but we believe we have the right mix of flavour pairings, styles and options to satisfy every customer. We supply Nut in Shell and Kernel varieties in bulk to clients across Australia, as well as global exports reaching countries such as Asia, the Americas, the Middle East, and Europe.
Our macadamias also find their way on tables at many fine dining restaurants in the local area such as Raes at Wategos, Byron At Byron Resort & Spa, Gaia Retreat & Spa, Mez Club and Mi Thai Lennox Head.
We offer a range of bulk macadamia nuts to suit any occasion as well as cold pressed macadamia oil and our deliciously versatile macadamia paste.
Grower Services
At Waliz Nuts we prioritize providing comprehensive support to our valued growers every step of the way.
Dedicated Support
Once growers are ready to pick up their harvest, a simple call to us sets our tailored support in motion. We take care of arranging skip drop-offs, coordinating freight, managing logistics, which includes dehusking and independent kernel evaluations. Our objective is to guarantee a smooth and hassle-free experience, empowering growers to concentrate on their operations while we handle the remainder.
Partnership with Aruma
We take great pride in our partnership Summerland House Farm (a business of Aruma), who assist us in de-husking and sorting harvests, ensuring the nuts are ready for processing. As a business provider of Australia’s largest disability services, they provide employment for people with a disability and are a backbone to our community.
